Today, Aira launches in Germany, a further step on its mission to accelerate decarbonisation across Europe.

Aira offers an innovative and accessible clean energy-tech solution with heat pumps at the heart to significantly reduce home heating bills and carbon emissions.

  • Vargas Holding backed clean energy-tech champion Aira, launches its German operations to tackle Europe’s third largest emitting sector of CO₂ – residential heating.
  • Aira’s ambition is to serve 5 million households across Europe, whereof 1 million in Germany, with affordable clean energy-tech solutions over the next 10 years.
  • Aira makes it easy for households to switch from gas and oil-based heating solutions, to an electrified clean home energy system with intelligent heat pumps at the heart.
  • To enable the energy transition Aira will employ and train over 5,000 clean energy experts by 2030. Aira opens its first German academy in Berlin with many more to follow across Europe.
  • Households will save up to 50% on heating bills and at the same time reduce CO₂ emission by more than 75% compared to current fossil fuel-based solutions.
In Germany, residential heating contributes to 11% of the country’s total CO2 emissions and more than 70% of all homes still use fossil fuels for heating.

Electrification of heating is a critical enabler for Europe to meet its Fit-for 55 targets. Large scale adoption of heat pumps in Europe has been hampered by high upfront costs, artificially low gas prices and low awareness. By switching from a gas boiler to a heat pump consumers reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by 75%, without making any lifestyle changes.

Aira Germany CEO, Leonhard von Harrach, says “with climate change, we’re facing the challenge of our generation. I have spent my entire career in electrification to decarbonise industries, and still I haven’t seen a single sector so underserved as residential heating. With Aira’s innovative solution, we are accelerating the transition to significantly reduce consumer bills while creating cleaner, greener homes. Germany has significant potential to decarbonise homes as there are already 10 million heat pump ready homes, and today we start in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Aira is a direct-to-consumer brand that offers an all-inclusive plan, comfort guarantee and 30 days order to installation commitment, enabling a fast and hassle-free transition to greener homes. Aira’s innovative subscription model, enables German households to access lower energy bills through clean energy-tech solutions with no upfront cost."

Martin Lewerth, Aira Group Chief Executive, says “our goal is to serve 5 million homes across Europe within a decade. To do this we have designed an unrivalled customer experience and reengineered the entire value chain. Aira provides consumers one point of contact offering a quick and simple turnkey solution. At Aira we move with speed. We are a restless company on a mission to expand across Europe, and today’s launch in Germany is a significant milestone on our journey.”
