Our 50% energy bill saving – or £1,392 a year – are based on energy bill savings over the lifetime of the system, not total energy-related costs. In simple terms, we compare the gas and electricity bills of a modern home with a gas boiler to the electricity costs of the same home powered by an Aira Heat Pump and Aira Power system (Aira Home Energy System) over 20 years.
These calculations exclude hardware and maintenance costs.
The example home includes an 8kW Aira Heat Pump, 14 470W solar panels and a 13.3kWh Aira Power Store battery storage.
First, we establish a baseline. The home uses 20,000 kWh of gas per year for heating and hot water, and 4,000 kWh of electricity for household use. Energy prices are based on the Ofgem price cap (Q3 2026), including 7.33p per kWh for gas, a 29.09p daily standing charge, and 26.11p per kWh for electricity.
Next, we model the same home with an Aira Heat Pump. Thanks to its efficiency, the heat pump uses 4,500 kWh of electricity per year to deliver the same level of heating. Combined with household electricity use, total consumption becomes 8,500 kWh per year, with no gas required.
We then factor in the Aira Power system. Using solar generation, battery storage and a smart tariff, electricity for heating and household use is modelled at a blended rate of 21p per kWh, reflecting lower-cost periods throughout the day.
Finally, we compare the total energy costs over time. Assuming 3.1% annual energy price inflation and a 20-year system lifetime, the gas boiler home would spend £71,013 on energy. The same home with an Aira Home Energy System would spend £33,254.
That equates to 53% lower energy bills over the lifetime of the system, which we have rounded down to 50%.
In addition, the system is expected to generate excess electricity. Around 3,401 kWh per year can be exported back to the grid. At an average export price of 15p per kWh, this could generate £20,413 in additional revenue over 20 years.
When these export earnings are taken into account, overall energy costs fall from £71,013 to £12,841. That equates to 82% lower overall energy costs over the lifetime of the system, which we have rounded down to 80%.
DISCLAIMER 1: Gas and electricity bills are calculated using prices from Q3 2026. Actual savings and export earnings may vary depending on your energy use, future price caps, export rates and tariff rates.
DISCLAIMER 2: Consumption and performance assumptions – including 20,000 kWh yearly gas use and 8,500 kWh total yearly electricity use for an Aira Heat Pump home – are based on Aira’s own data and insights from over 800 home visits each month.
