Aira Heat Pump performance dashboard
How do Aira Heat Pumps perform in real homes across the UK? We dug into the data.

So much more affordable than a boiler
We looked at real energy usage from Aira Heat Pumps in UK homes and compared it to what the same homes would have paid using a gas boiler. The result? Our customers are saving. A lot.

Savings grow with a connected tariff
By connecting their energy tariff in the Aira app, customers allow Aira Intelligence to adjust heating around their tariff’s electricity prices. And the data shows it’s helping them save even more on their energy bills.
Average yearly savings for customers on standard electricity tariffs
Based on yearly UK gas and electricity prices using the average Ofgem price cap across the year, without a connected tariff in the Aira app.
Average yearly savings for customers who connected their tariff in the Aira app
Based on all customers using Aira Intelligence tariff optimisation with a connected electricity tariff in the Aira app.
Average yearly savings for customers connected to a Cosy Octopus tariff
Based on customers using Aira Intelligence tariff optimisation with a connected Cosy Octopus tariff in the Aira app.
Average yearly savings with Cosy Octopus tariff & no gas standing charge
Based on customers with a connected Cosy Octopus electricity tariff, plus an additional average yearly saving of £108 from disconnecting from gas and no longer paying gas standing charges.
Your actual savings will vary depending on system design, tariff choice, home insulation, comfort setting and your energy use. Gas boiler assumed at 85% efficiency based on UK government study. Data only includes Aira Heat Pumps with at least one full year of performance data to ensure a fair yearly comparison and avoid seasonal bias.

How efficient is the Aira Heat Pump?
We measure our heat pumps’ efficiency using SPF-4, not COP or SCOP. Because real homes aren’t laboratories. SPF-4 measures real-world performance. It’s more honest. And still shows Aira Heat Pumps are at least 4X more efficient than a typical gas boiler.

Way more efficient than a boiler. All winter long.
All heating systems are put to the test in winter. And this is when performance really matters. Here’s how efficient Aira Heat Pumps were in real homes during the coldest months of the year.
| Month | Aira Heat Pump (SPF-4) | Typical gas boiler efficiency |
|---|---|---|
| November | 4.67 | 0.85 |
| December | 3.71 | 0.85 |
| January | 3.40 | 0.85 |
| February | 3.86 | 0.85 |

Boiler efficiency figures are based on field trial data from a UK government study, reflecting average real-world performance across UK homes.

Cleaning up UK home heating
Heating homes is responsible for around 18% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions.¹ One of the biggest culprits? Gas boilers. Around 85% of UK homes still use them. So, we looked at how much energy Aira Heat Pumps use in real homes, and compared it to the emissions a gas boiler would have produced to deliver the same amount of heat.

Equivalent to taking a petrol car off the road for 10 months.
Equivalent to taking 4 return flights between London and Barcelona every year
Equivalent to planting 72 trees every year
The average yearly CO₂ saving per Aira Heat Pump is calculated using systems with at least one full year of performance data to give the clearest picture of yearly performance.
