How do I connect my tariff in the app?

Accepted Answer

Open the app and head to “Settings". Tap "Your energy tariffs".

From there, choose the tariff you want to connect:

Import tariff – the electricity you use at home
Export tariff – if you have solar panels installed by Aira

Select your tariff type, confirm your address and choose your energy provider. If your provider supports automatic connection, you’ll be securely redirected to log in and approve access. It usually takes a few seconds.

If automatic sign-in isn’t available, you can select your tariff from the list – or enter the details manually.

That’s it. Once connected, Aira Intelligence can optimise your heating and energy use around energy prices.

Question 2

Since connecting to my tariff, my house feels cooler than I'd like. How can I change this?

Accepted Answer

When you connect a smart tariff, Aira Intelligence shifts heating and hot water to cheaper times of day. That helps you use less energy during peak price periods.

In some homes, this can mean small temperature changes – especially in the first few days while your system adjusts.

If your home feels noticeably cooler than you’d like, get in touch with our Customer Care team. We’ll review your optimisation settings and fine-tune them to suit your home.

Question 3

I’ve noticed an increase in my electricity bill since switching to my smart tariff. What could be causing this?

Accepted Answer

Connecting a smart tariff should help your heat pump use more energy when prices are lower. Over time, that usually means lower costs compared to a fixed tariff.

That said, bills can still change for other reasons – especially during colder weather or when hot water use increases. Your heat pump simply works harder when demand goes up.

It’s also worth checking where you are in your billing cycle. Savings from optimisation don’t always show up immediately.

Will my indoor temperature fluctuate when I connect to a smart tariff?

When you’re on a smart tariff (like a day & night or dynamic tariff), Aira Intelligence shifts heating to cheaper times of day. That helps you use less energy during peak price periods.

In most homes, you won’t notice a difference. In some, the temperature may vary slightly – usually within ±0.5 to 1°C – depending on your home.

But your comfort always comes first. If it doesn’t feel right, contact our Customer Care team, and we’ll adjust your settings remotely.

Now that I’m connected to a smart tariff, where can I track my savings on electricity bills, and can I compare these savings to my expenses before switching to this tariff?

Accepted Answer

You can track your savings in the Insights section of the Aira Home Energy app.

There, you’ll see:

Your estimated monthly savings compared to your previous gas boiler
The estimated impact of connecting your tariff and switching on “Smart Tariff Control” on your electricity costs

For smart tariffs, we compare how your heat pump is running now with how it would run without tariff optimisation. That helps you see the value of connecting your tariff — clearly and month by month.

Question 6

Why do I need a smart meter for a smart tariff?

Smart tariffs (like a day & night or dynamic tariffs) use different electricity prices at different times of day.

A smart meter records your electricity use in half-hour periods. That’s what allows your energy provider – and Aira Intelligence – to know when you’re using energy and apply the correct price.

Without a smart meter, your usage can’t be measured accurately across different price periods. That means smart tariffs won’t work properly.

How is my Tariff Savings estimate calculated?

We compare how your system runs with smart tariff optimisation switched on, against how it would run without it.

To do that accurately, your system occasionally runs “calibration days”. These help us understand your home’s normal heating pattern and create a fair baseline for comparison.

Each month, we use that baseline to estimate how much smart tariff optimisation has saved you. You’ll see the result in your app.

Savings are always an estimate. Weather, your home, and how you use heating and hot water all affect the final number. Aira Intelligence is always learning, so the longer your system runs, the more accurate the estimate becomes.

I’m having trouble connecting my tariff in the app. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

If your provider supports automatic connection, you’ll be redirected to log in and approve access. If that step fails, try again – it usually takes just a few seconds.

If your provider doesn’t support automatic sign-in yet, you can enter your tariff details manually instead.

What is Smart Tariff Control? Why does it need to be on? And where can I find it?

Smart Tariff Control allows Aira Intelligence to optimise your heating and hot water around your energy tariff.

When it’s switched on, Aira Intelligence looks at your tariff’s electricity prices and adjusts when your heat pump runs — using more energy when prices are lower, and easing off when they’re higher.

To connect your tariff and make optimisation work, Smart Tariff Control needs to be enabled.

You’ll find it in your Heating and Hot Water settings in the Aira app.

You can turn it off if you’d prefer to create your own schedule. But if you’re on a smart tariff, leaving it on means Aira Intelligence can do the work for you.

How will connecting my tariff affect energy efficiency?

Accepted Answer

When you connect a smart tariff and enable Smart Tariff Control, Aira Intelligence optimises when your heat pump runs – using more electricity when prices are lower and easing off when they’re higher.

That can sometimes change how your system operates throughout the day. In some cases, this may slightly affect efficiency. But the aim isn’t just efficiency – it’s lower overall energy costs, and using cheaper electricity at the right times is designed to outweigh any small reductions in efficiency.

If you’re on a fixed tariff, electricity prices don’t change throughout the day. That means there’s nothing to shift around, so your system simply runs as normal.
